There comes a point when running a business where you will need to play the host. It might be to invite investors to see what your enterprise looks like, or potentially a lucrative client that could make or break the future of your company. Either way, you’re going to have judgemental eyes cast over your premises and office – and are you sure they are going to like what they see?


If you don’t usually run a customer-facing business, then the idea of your space being judged can be a difficult one to contemplate. Usually, your office premises are only seen by you and your employees and – to an extent – no one is particularly concerned with what they look like. The same cannot be said for those you want to impress; their judgement matters, and you need to get it right to ensure that the very best impressions are made. Perhaps it shouldn’t matter and how good your business is should be the star of the show, but that’s somewhat idealistic: appearances do matter, and you want yours to be a ringing endorsement of success.


That means you might have a job on your hands to bring your premises up to scratch. To do so, you need to be careful of three main areas.

#1 – Entrance


The first impression that anyone will get of your business space is the walk from the car park to the front door. There’s no need to roll out a red carpet, but you do at least need to tackle problems like dirt and grime. The use of something like the high pressure washers on can make all the difference, sprucing up your entryway and giving it a new lease of life. Don’t forget the doors and windows either; grubby and dirty is not an impression you want an important guest to have of your company before they have walked through the door.


#2 – Greeting


Walking into the main building, look around and see what they will see. Cleanliness is of course an essential, but also look to ensure you have attractive touches such as office plants. Instruct all employees to smile and be friendly without being overbearing.


If you have never got to the point of labeling your doors, then now would be the time – you want your business space to appear seamless and easy to navigate. You can pick up plastic letters relatively inexpensively online, but they will create an impression of cohesion that’s worth much more.


#3 – Meeting The Need For Provisions



Now through the front door and into your meeting room, the first thing you need to be aware of is the ability to provide provisions. While watery cheap coffee might suffice to keep you going through the day, it’s not what you want to offer to your guests. There’s no need to go and spend a fortune on a coffee maker, but a French press might be a decent middle ground that won’t cost a fortune; has some starter guides to take advantage of. Add a few tea options and ensure your cups are all free from chips and sparkling with cleanliness, and you’re good to go.


While the above might not sound important or essential to the nitty gritty of your business, there’s no escaping the fact that appearances do make a difference. You want to appear in control and competent, so mastering your environment is the first step to putting yourself on the best possible display.
