What Motivates You?

Motivation is defined as: the general desire or willingness of someone to do something. That means what motivates you is centralized precisely to your specific needs and wants. Motivation is supposed to be your drive to achieve something but most times our motivation is used as an unreliable stimulator. By this I mean that you say you are motivated but it is just you talking out your mouth. In actuality you are not doing anything but masking your failure to move forward beyond those “powerful, uplifting” words.

Let’s go back to the topic of the post. What motivates you? Some will say family, others will say being successful and most will say money. Okay, so we have pinpointed what motivates you but do you have actual drive behind that motivation? We consistently say we want to do A to get to B, but something seems to always come up during this process. Either we are too “busy”, are fearful or simply procrastinate while continuing to hype ourselves up. This is nothing but pure contradiction on our part but we will continue to say we are motivated. If you are truly motivated there would be drive behind your words, actions that lead to results. You see, you have to stop saying you are motivated when you are actually trying your best to hype yourself up to make the push forward. Usually when someone continuously says they are motivated, they are trying to cover up the fact that they are half assing or merely just talking. Trust me, I am guilty of such inconsistent behavior. That is why the saying, “actions speak louder than words, ” is so true.

So what motivates you and actually pushes you to achieve a goal? As an entrepreneur that motivational force is supposed to be quite beneficial to your overall performance. It is the mental food which helps to feed you at your lowest point and keeps you focused when things are going quite well. Motivating thoughts: If I don’t succeed my family doesn’t eat. If I don’t grind my money dries up. If I don’t make these sales my business will fail. These are the thoughts which propel us to put our words into action. That need to stand tall and deliver is the motivation behind our continued hard work.

If you are truly motivated you cannot fake the funk. Meaning you can only talk for so long before your talk becomes stale and starts to both taste bad and sound forced. Use your motivation as real drive and not filler, hype talk. You have work to do and goals to accomplish. Stay motivated, stay driven and stay focused on doing what needs to be done.
